Yakut Snow Sheep

Russia offers a number of opportunities for different species of snow sheep. Excluding protected species such as Putorana and Chukotka Snow Sheep, the Russian Snow Sheep numbers are estimated at 57,700.  40,000 of this population base are located in Yakutia.  Success for hunters in this area has been nearly 100%.

This hunt can be combined with a bear hunt after August 25th.

Getting to the Hunting Area

You will fly into Moscow and upon arrival you will be met by ProfiHunt’s representative who will assist you in the customs formalities.  Depending on your arrival time, you may overnight in Moscow at a hotel, or fly on to Yakuts where  you will then be chartered into the camp by a helicopter on a flight of about two hours in length.

Hunting Camps

The base camps consist of tents and are equipped with stoves and cots. Separate tents are used for dining and sleeping, with showers seldom available. The camps are located in mountain valleys at elevations of about 3,000 feet. All camps have cooks who prepare good home style meals while offering quality service in a rustic setting.  Electricity is supplied by generators.

Hunting Methods

Traditional spot and stalk hunting techniques are used for Yakut Snow Sheep hunting.  Each hunter will have two guides during their hunt.

Hunting is conducted on foot. A great deal of walking is required, thus your physical condition will be a factor.  Expect to walk 10 to 12 miles per day, however the terrain is not too difficult.

Spike tent camps are used on occasion so as to access remote areas and allow you to cover more area during your hunt. Long range shooting between 350-450 yards is common with the sheep generally at elevations of 6,000 feet.
