Siberian Brown Bear
The Siberian
Brown Bear (Ursus arctos collaris) occupies the largest habitat in Russia.
It is considered “intermediate” in size between Eurasian and Kamchatka Brown
Bears with the average trophy measuring between eight to eight and a half
feet, with an occasional nine footer taken. The Siberian Brown Bear has a
collar that is usually dark brown and it has noticeably darker colored
legs. The fur is long, soft and dense making for an excellent trophy.
This hunt can be
combined with a Capercaille Hunt.
Getting to the Hunting Area
You will fly
into Moscow and upon arrival will be met by ProfiHunt’s representative who
will assist you in the customs formalities. You will overnight at a Hotel
in Moscow and then fly about 6 hours the next day to Irkutsk, Barnaul or
Kemerovo where you will transfer to the hunting area via boat or car,
depending on the area you will be hunting in.
Hunting Camps
The camps are
simple hunting houses or cabins with cots. They are warm, clean and
comfortable. All camps have cooks who prepare good home style meals while
offering quality service in a rustic setting with a staff ready to make your
stay an enjoyable one while you pursue your trophy.
Hunting Methods
In the spring,
the bears typically congregate in areas where the first green grass shoots
appear. This hunt is in mountainous terrain, and it can be a physically
demanding hunt. Your physical condition will be a factor, especially if you
use the traditional “spot and stalk” method to pursue your trophy.
In addition to
the traditional “spot and stalk”, the Siberian Brown Bear is hunted over
bait, and in some areas you will hunt by boat. Basis the bears feeding on
the green vegetation, they can be easily spotted from boats and the noise of
the river lets you approach the shore without alarming the bear so as to
start your stalk. This can be a very challenging “chess match” with the
bear, however has proven to be very successful basis the methods that
ProfitHunt uses. Bear hunt via boat in the Irkutsk region by Baikal Lake is
an unforgettable adventure, and it is recommended for large groups.
