Gary Herbert started New Zealand Mountain Hunting in 1994 with the objective of providing international hunters some of the best trophy  opportunities throughout New Zealand. 

Gary owns his own area in the heart of the Southern Alps and leases two additional areas.  This allows Gary’s hunters more opportunities to be selective, thus trophy quality is high with New Zealand Mountain Hunting Ltd.

The types of hunting offered by Gary also separates him from other companies.  Should you want daily hikes from a main lodge, spike camps at 5 to 7 thousand feet, helicopter day hunts, or a combination of the three, your hunt is customized.

Along with his wife Louise, Gary is also an ambassador for New Zealand.  Non-hunting companions are encouraged to accompany you and have an opportunity to hunt with you or “play tourist” with arrangements for such activities as wine tours, helicopter glacier landings, touring Milford Sound, or shopping arrangements made by Louise and her staff.

“Hunter Satisfaction policy” - If you hunt with New Zealand Mountain Hunting Ltd. and don’t have at least one shooting opportunity at the desired game you came after, or find the guides, organization and lodgings inadequate or through any lack of effort from New Zealand Mountain Hunting Ltd you are entitled to a full refund of your hunt payment.
