Mid-Caucasian Tur

Turs that are found on the eastern side of the Caucasus Mountains of Russia are called Dagestan or Eastern Turs,  while those on the western side are Kuban (Western) Turs.  A Mid-Caucasian Tur is considered one that is located in the areas where the Eastern and Western Turs are mixed.  This area is referred to as the Nalchik area.

Note that all three Turs are considered different species with each counting towards the Ovis and Capra World Slams.

This hunt can be combined with Caucasian Chamois, Mid-Eastern Brown Bear, Wolf, European Roe Buck, European Red Stag

Getting to the Hunting Area

You will fly into Moscow and upon arrival will be met by ProfiHunt’s representative who will assist you in the customs formalities.  You’ll then most likely spend the evening in a hotel in Moscow.  In the morning you be accompanied by a PrfoiHunt Guide when you fly two hours to Nalchik, followed by a 20 mile transfer via car to the hunting area.

Hunting Camps

Base Camp is a comfortable lodge, however know that this is mainly a backpack hunt.

Hunting Methods

Your hunting will start from the Base Camp. Backpack hunting is customary in most areas with minimal amounts of horse back riding done in some areas.  This is really truly a mountain hunting experience with terrain that is difficult and steep.

Spike tents are often used and encouraged so as to enhance your ability to cover larger areas during your hunt.   A temporary tented camp is set up at 8,000 feet.

Rams are generally located in very remote country at 9,000 feet or in lower timbered country at 7,000 feet.  Upon locating a trophy you will stalk your trophy on foot.  Your physical condition is definitely a factor for this hunt.
