Mid-Asian Ibex

Getting to the Hunting Area

Arrival into Almaty is normally at midnight by Lufthansa via Frankfurt or by Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. You will be met at the airport by ProfiHunt, who will assist you through the customs process with arrival and departure VIP Service included in your package.

You will then be taken to a hotel and in the morning be driven to your hunting area. Your travel time will be 5 to 6 hrs if you hunt in Altyn Emel National Park, 12 to 14 hrs drive if you go to Djungarian Alatau area, and 2 hrs if you hunt to Ily Alatau National Park.

Hunting Camps

Tents, yurts (GER) or hunting cabins are used to accommodate the hunters in these regions and are located deep into the mountain basins. Base camps are clean and warm however “modern convinces” are none.  You will have a cook and interpreter in camp with base camps having showers.

Spike camps can be used to pursue trophies and are set up on the plateaus at around 5,500 – 7,000 feet.  Even with the sparse conditions of a spike tent camp; know that you will have skilled staff working hard to make you comfortable.

Hunting Methods

Mid-Asian Ibex hunt is classical spot and stalk hunt. 

Horses can be helpful on these hunts; allowing you to cover more of the vast area the Ibex inhabit.  In some areas a great deal of riding is required and horse back riding experience is helpful. 

During the day you’ll travel the valleys and upper edges of mountains, glassing the hillsides and feeding areas. Normally you will see numerous Ibex during the day. Your physical condition is a factor on the stalking portion of the hunt. Long range shooting, up to 400 yards, is normal on this hunt.
