Kamchatka Koryak Snow Sheep
The northern
part of the Kamchatka Peninsula offers exceptional hunting for Koryak Snow
Sheep. The hunting area is huge in size and contains an excellent ram
population. Koryak Snow Sheep average size of 34 to 35 inches with an
occasional 40+ inch trophy taken. Sheep are normally found at elevations
between 4,000 to 5,000 feet.
This hunt can be
combined with Kamchatka Brown Bear, and Chukotka Moose.
Getting to the Hunting Area
You have several
options in flying to the Kamchatka Peninsula. There is at times a flight
from Alaska that is done once a week into Petropavlovsk, however many
hunters connect thru Moscow where daily service to Petropavlovsk is
available. In Petropavlovsk, upon arrival you will be met by ProfiHunt’s
representative who will assist you in the customs formalities. Depending on
your arrival time, you will be taken to hotel for the evening, or you will
connect on a commercial flight from Petropavlovsk to Korf. From Korf you
will be chartered into the camp by a helicopter.
Hunting Camps
The camps are
modern windproof tents and are equipped with stoves and cots. Separate tents
are used for dining, sleeping, with one set up with a shower. The camps are
located in mountain valleys at elevations between 2,500 to 3,000 feet. All
camps have cooks who prepare good home style meals while offering quality
service in a rustic setting. Electricity is supplied by generators.
Hunting Methods
Traditional Spot
and Stalk is used for Koryak Snow Sheep hunting. In most instances you will
have two guides for each hunter in camp.
All hunting is
conducted on foot. A great deal of walking and climbing is required, thus
your physical condition will be a factor. Spike tent camps are normally
used so as to access remote areas and allow you to cover more area during
your hunt. Long range shooting between 350 to 450 yards is common.
