Kamchatka Brown Bear
Many consider a
Kamchatka Brown Bear hunt one of the most exciting adventures available for
the hunters and the Kamchatka Peninsula is well known for big bears.
ProfiHunt has been hunting brown bear in Kamchatka for 12 years and
consistently has clients bringing home large bears. Each year at least
fifteen clients take bears measuring over 9 feet, plus four or five clients
will normally take bears that come in at 10 foot or more.
The fall season
on Kamchatka offers a great opportunity to also take a Kamchatka Snow Sheep.
Getting to the Hunting Area
You have several
options for flying to the Kamchatka Peninsula. There is at times a flight
from Alaska that is done once a week into Petropavlovsk, however many
hunters connect thru Moscow since daily service is available to
Petropavlovsk. In Petropavlovsk, upon arrival you will be met by
ProfiHunt’s representative who will assist you in the customs formalities.
You will travel by car for 8 hours to Esso and stay overnight in a Hotel.
In the morning you will take a one hour helicopter charter to the hunting
camp.
For the Magadan
area, you will fly commercial airlines into Magadan and then transfer via
helicopter to the hunting area.
Hunting Camps
The camps are
polar tents or cabins and are equipped with stoves and cots. Separate tents
are used for dining, sleeping, and bathing. All camps have an interpreter
and cook who prepare good home style meals while offering quality service in
a rustic setting. Although you have no running water, you will have
electricity that will be supplied by generators.
Hunting Methods
Spring Bears are
hunted as they emerge from their winter dens. You will use snowmobiles to
gain access in this remote country. Your guide drives the snowmobile and you
will sit on the trailing sled, while you cover large areas looking for
tracks. Once tracks are found, you’ll follow via snowmobile until you spot
the bear. You will then stalk on foot, snow shoes, or skis.
Fall hunts are
done on boat, foot, or by spotting and stalking while observing active
Salmon streams, berry patches and feeding areas. In some areas horseback
hunting is available. Average shooting distance for bear hunting is between
150 to 200 yards.
