Chukotka Moose in Kamchatka and Koryak Region

The Chukotka Moose is the largest antlered animal in the world. ProfiHunt conducts these hunts in the Koryak region and in the central part of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Antler spreads vary considerably, however the average moose taken will have a 61 inch spread, with a few hunters each year taking moose with spreads that will reach 70+ inches. The weight of the antlers alone can be up to 100 pounds on these magnificent trophies.

This hunt can be combined with Kamchatka Brown Bear, Wolf, and Koryak Snow Sheep when hunting the northern part of Kamchatka.

Getting to the Hunting Area

Both hunting areas are accessed via Petropavlovsk and you have several options when flying to the Petropavlovsk on the Kamchatka Peninsula.  There is at times a flight from Alaska that is done once a week into Petropavlovsk, however many hunters connect thru Moscow since daily service is available to Petropavlovsk.  In Petropavlovsk, upon arrival you will be met by ProfiHunt’s representative who will assist you in the customs formalities.

From Petropavlovsk, you will travel by car and snowmobile if your hunt is on the Kamchatka Peninsula.  If your hunt is in the Koryak Region you will fly to Korf / Tilchiky and then transfer to the hunting area.

Hunting Camps

Accommodations in the Koryak Region is normally tented while the Kamchatka area is in tents or cabins.  In either area, your accommodations are equipped with stoves and cots. Tent camps will have separate tents are used for dining, sleeping, and bathing.  All camps have an interpreter and cook who prepare good home style meals while offering quality service in a rustic setting.  You will have electricity that will be supplied by generators.

Hunting Methods

Moose are found anywhere from the lowest valley to the tree-lines in the high mountains. Generally your Guide will have a large bull or two located upon your arrival. Most hunting is done by foot, however the central part of the Kamchatka Peninsula is one of the few areas where horses can be used on your moose hunt.

In November and December hunters will normally use snowmobiles. Your guide drives the snowmobile and you will sit on the trailing sled, while you cover large areas looking for tracks. Once tracks are found, you’ll follow them via snowmobile until you spot the moose.  You will then stalk on foot, snow shoes, or skis.
